For years, I had been taking care to buy ‘Natural’ and ‘Organic’ body care products because I didn’t want to pollute either my body or the Earth with a lot of chemicals. Oh - what I didn’t know! And, what you don’t know actually CAN hurt you. When I began to read the labels and look up each ingredient,

I was shocked. Toxic, carcinogenic ingredients were predominant in these body care products. I learned that if a small amount of organic ingredients

are in a product, the company can advertise as though the entire product

is organic. And the number of toxic ingredients was amazing!

We are careful about what we put into our bodies, taking care to buy healthy foods, but what about the products we put ON our bodies? We wash to get rid of pollutants, we put on lotions to moisturize, little knowing just what these products are doing to us. Our skin is the largest organ of our body. What we put ON our bodies is absorbed into the bloodstream and becomes as much

a part of us as if we had eaten it.

Why are we exposed to all of these toxins when the majority of them are banned in other countries? For the most part, it isn’t because the products are more effective but because they're cheaper. And it’s because we don’t pay attention, trusting corporations to do their best by us. The body care industry is a largely unregulated, multi-billion dollar industry that caters to its own interests. However, we can take our body care into our own hands and know what we are really getting for our money.
